Truecaller's Call Recording And AI Transcription Feature Now In India

However, this feature will be offered as a premium feature exclusively available to paid users of Truecaller.

Caller identification service provider Truecaller has expanded its call recording and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered transcription features to India. Initially launched in the US in June 2023, the company is now expanding this feature to additional regions. Both Android and iOS users will now have the ability to record incoming and outgoing calls and transcribe them using AI technology on Truecaller.

However, this feature will be offered as a premium feature exclusively available to paid users of Truecaller.

In an announcement, the Swedish caller identification service provider mentioned that this new feature enables users to record calls directly within the app, eliminating the requirement of third-party applications for call recordings. Additionally, the company has integrated AI to offer a transcription feature, providing complete transcriptions of recorded calls once the call concludes.

Notably, the app previously offered call recording functionality but had to discontinue it after Google imposed restrictions on apps using an API intended for accessibility features to record calls.

However, the process of call recording varies between iOS and Android devices. Due to iOS' stricter policies regarding third-party call recording, Truecaller users on iPhones must navigate to the Search page and select "Record a call." This action prompts the app to initiate a call to a designated recording line, provided by Truecaller.

iOS users then call the desired contact and merge both calls using the appropriate option. Once merged, the recording begins, and users receive a push notification confirming the recording process. Truecaller assures users that all recorded calls are stored locally on the device, with the option to create a backup on iCloud.

On the other hand, the process of call recording on Android is simpler. Truecaller's dialer features a dedicated recording button to initiate and stop recording. Alternatively, if the user is not using the app's dialer, a floating button for recording will be visible. After the call ends on both platforms, a push notification alerts users when the transcription is ready.

Transcriptions on Truecaller are offered in both English and Hindi languages. Users have the option to listen to recordings, rename them, delete unwanted ones, or share them with other apps.
