Spotify Tests 'Featured Curators' That Highlights Popular User-Curated Playlists
Swedish music streaming company has announced it is testing a new feature called "Featured Curators" that essentially promotes popular playlists created by select users and influencers.
New Delhi: Days after Spotify updated its popular playlist creation tool Blend, the Swedish music streaming company has announced it is testing a new feature called "Featured Curators" that essentially promotes popular playlists created by select users and influencers. There is no official word if the pilot will be available in India; the feature will be available in select markets.
The feature is a pilot being tested for a limited time and it promotes popular user and influencer playlists alongside regular Spotify playlists.
"One of the biggest ways that listeners bring their individuality to life is through playlist creation. So this month, Spotify is testing a new way to amplify the playlists our listeners create. With the rollout of the Featured Curators pilot, Spotify is testing a new way for listeners to discover music they love with a collection of playlists curated by select Spotify users and influencers," the company wrote in a blog post.
Spotify's Featured Curators pilot includes playlists by music lovers with established followings and popular playlists on the streaming platform. They are also the ones telling unique stories through playlists and creating authentic connections with other users.
"Users in select markets may soon begin to see Featured Curator playlists recommended in-app and on their homepages. As we continue to workshop the program throughout the testing period, we’ll be thoughtful in how we evolve and innovate the experience," the company added.
Spotify has recently started to add vertical scrolling to podcasts on the audio platform similar to a newsfeed or Reels on Instagram. The new feature will make use of a machine learning (ML) model that has been trained for over 100,000 hours of audio to make it capable of automatically suggesting selected audio clips to individual users.
