Samsung's Next Foldable Could Be The Slimmest Of Its Kind, Even Thinner Than Oppo Find N5

Oppo Find N5 is currently sleekest foldable out there, at 8.9mm of thickness.

Samsung might be preparing to deliver a major design breakthrough in the foldable market. If new leaks are to be believed, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 could emerge as the slimmest foldable phone the market has ever seen, even sleeker than the Oppo Find N5, which currently holds the title.

A Bold New Benchmark in Foldable Design

According to noted tipster @TheGalox_, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 may feature a folded thickness of just 8.2mm. That figure doesn’t just beat the Oppo Find N5’s 8.9mm — it slices off over 30% of the bulk from the Galaxy Z Fold 6. If this pans out, the Z Fold 7 would not only be the thinnest book-style foldable yet, but also a drastic departure from the chunkier days of the original Galaxy Fold.

“Z Fold 7 is less than half as thick as the original Galaxy Fold and 4mm thinner than its predecessor,” the tipster highlighted. That stat alone is likely to excite long-time fans who’ve grown weary of iterative updates in the foldable segment.

Rumours Meet Reality: Can Samsung Deliver?

While the 8.2mm thickness sounds groundbreaking, it’s worth noting that earlier leaks pointed to a more conservative 9.5mm figure. The question remains: can Samsung really trim down this much without cutting essential features?

One possibility is a reimagined S Pen experience. Reports have indicated that Samsung may ditch the traditional digitizer approach, opting instead for a system similar to the Apple Pencil. This could save internal space while retaining stylus support — a key feature for productivity-minded users.

Premium Chip, Premium Price?

Powering the device could be Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 — referred to in leaks as the Snapdragon 8 Elite — adding to the performance appeal. But all these enhancements might come at a premium. The Z Fold 7 is rumoured to cost upwards of $1,900.

Still, if Samsung delivers on this ultra-slim promise, it could be just the shake-up the foldable market needs. With rivals like the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo Find N5 upping their game, Samsung may be pulling ahead once again in the design stakes.

For now, it’s all speculation until the official Samsung Unpacked event in July. But if the Z Fold 7 really does arrive at 8.2mm thick, it could very well redefine what we expect from foldable smartphones.
