Sydney New Year's Eve Fireworks: When, How To Watch Livestream Online

Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks remain a beacon of innovation and festivity, drawing millions of viewers worldwide.

New Year's Eve: As the world counts down to 2025, Sydney is set to deliver a jaw-dropping New Year’s Eve celebration with what promises to be its most elaborate fireworks display to date. Over a million spectators are expected to flock to the harbour foreshore for this dazzling annual tradition.

Grand Fireworks Display

This year’s event will see fireworks launched from 80 additional sites on the western side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, creating a more expansive and immersive experience.

Spanning a seven-kilometre stretch of the harbour, from Cockatoo Island to Point Piper, the display will feature over nine tonnes of fireworks, including cutting-edge pyrotechnic effects and newly introduced aerial platforms.

Two Showstopping Displays:

  • 9 PM Family Fireworks: A 20-minute display celebrating Sydney’s cultural diversity will light up the harbour early, incorporating fireworks launched from the iconic Opera House and city skyscrapers.
  • Midnight Finale: The grand spectacle will include 23,000 pyrotechnic shots, 13,000 aerial shells, and 40,000 ground effects, with 264 firing positions—including new additions on the bridge’s western side—delivering an unparalleled visual feast.

Water-Based Pyrotechnics: Eight floating platforms will add over 11,000 aerial bursts, further amplifying the grandeur of the event.

The fireworks are being crafted by Foti International Fireworks, which has spearheaded Sydney’s displays for nearly three decades. With over 4,500 hours of preparation and a 70-strong team managing 120 tonnes of equipment, the show promises to be a flawless production. Advanced techniques, including 10 new firework designs depicting birds, fish, and other shapes, are set to leave viewers spellbound.

Popular viewing spots like Pirrama Park and Observatory Hill will feature live music, food stalls, and prime vistas of the harbour. These locations open from 7 PM, offering a festive build-up to the main event.

For those watching from afar, both the 9 PM (3:30 pm IST) and midnight (6:30 pm IST) displays will be broadcast live on ABC TV and streamed globally on the Sydney New Year’s Eve website and ABC iview.

Sydney’s public transport system will operate additional services to accommodate the large crowds, while key roads, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Cahill Expressway, will be closed during the event. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid disruptions.

Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks remain a beacon of innovation and festivity, drawing millions of viewers worldwide. This year’s display promises to raise the bar with breathtaking visuals and a spirit of inclusivity, ensuring a memorable start to 2025 for all.
