Instagram Planning To Double Down On Videos, Give More Control To Users In 2022

Instagram is mulling to double down on videos on the platform and work more towards giving users more control for better transparency in the coming year.

New Delhi: In a bid to give more power to users, Meta, (formerly Facebook) owned popular photo-sharing app Instagram is mulling to double down on videos on the platform and work more towards giving users more control for better transparency in the coming year. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the company's key priorities for next year will be videos, transparency, creators and messaging.

The Instagram boss posted a video on Twitter, highlighting the general goals for the company in 2022.

“We're going to double down on our focus on video, we're no longer just a photo-sharing app, and consolidate all our video formats around Reels and continue to grow that product", Mosseri said.

"Instagram will focus on messaging and will double down work on controls to improve transparency in the coming year. He ensured that Instagram will introduce more monetisation products to help and empower the creators to make a living on the platform," the top executive at Instagram added.

One of the key areas where Instagram will focus is consolidating all of its video formats around Instagram Reels.

"We are going to have to rethink what Instagram is because the world is changing quickly and we're going to have to change with it," Mosseri was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Instagram started testing the ability to share longer videos of up to 60 seconds. First spotted by Matt Navarra, the video-sharing platform is sending notifications to a small group of people about the change. This is being seen as a much-needed upgrade on the part of Instagram as it aims to rival Snapchat that also does not let users share long videos in a single upload.

Currently, ByteDance owned TikTok is the most popular standalone app for content creators to edit their videos, and it is no surprise that Instagram also working towards attracting more creators by introducing the ability to share longer videos. TikTok was banned in India last year.
