Google AI-Backed Feature Turns Your Notes Into A Podcast, Here Are Its Limitations

Google acknowledges that while the new feature can be useful, it comes with limitations. For instance, generating an Audio Overview may take several minutes if your notebook is large.

Google is reportedly working on a new feature which will assist you in creating an AI-generated podcast just on the basis of your research notes. This feature is expected to “summarise your material, make connections between topics, and banter back and forth.” This feature is presently accessible through the AI-powered note-taking app, NotebookLM. The tech giant has described this new feature as “a new way to turn your documents into engaging audio discussions.” Google in a blog post said that two AI hosts can kickoff a dynamic deep discussion based on your sources just with a single click.

A product manager at Google Labs, Biao Wang, said, “They summarise your material, connect topics, and banter back and forth. You can even download the conversation and take it on the go.”

Google's New AI Backed Feature's Limitations

Google acknowledges that while the new feature can be useful, it comes with limitations. For instance, generating an Audio Overview may take several minutes if your notebook is large. Additionally, the AI presenters, who currently speak only English, can't be interrupted and might occasionally introduce errors.

NotebookLM supports Google Slides, web URLs, Google Docs, PDFs, and text documents as sources, allowing users to create a mini podcast. However, keep in mind that using the Audio Overview option can be a slow process.

Earlier this year, Google expanded NotebookLM to over 200 countries and upgraded its underlying language model to Gemini 1.5 Pro. Launched in June 2023, NotebookLM acts as a virtual research assistant, and it is capable of summarising information, explaining complex topics, and helping brainstorm ideas.
