New Delhi: Google Chrome's logo has undergone a design overhaul after eight years. Even as the changes are subtle, but they can be spotted if you look hard. Instead of incorporating shadows on the borders between each colour, Google is essentially 'raising' them off the screen and the red, yellow and green colours are just flat, according to a report in The Verge. And while not mentioned by Hu, the blue circle in the middle seems to be bigger and stares into your soul even more, but maybe that’s just my imagination.

The change incorporated for the first time since 2014 in the Google Chrome logo essentially makes the blue circle in the middle look bigger and the overall colours in the new Chrome logo kind of pop up. "Some of you might have noticed a new icon in Chrome’s Canary update today. Yes! we’re refreshing Chrome’s brand icons for the first time in 8 years. The new icons will start to appear across your devices soon," Elvin Hu, a designer from Google Chrome recently tweeted from his handle @elvin_not_11, giving a peek into the new Chrome logo.

From 2008 until now, the Chrome logo has been getting gradually simpler. What started out as a shiny, three-dimensional emblem has been squashed down into a 2D symbol of modernity. Maybe one day I’ll get my wish and see that almost tangible 2008 Chrome logo grace my desktop once again. But not today, The Verge report added.

It should be noted that the overhauled Google Chrome logo would look different across all systems. For example, to complement the other system icons, the new Chrome logo would look more colourful on ChromeOS. The new Chrome logo, on the other hand, would have a small shadow on macOS. The new logo for Windows 10 and Windows 11 version would have a more dramatic gradient, in line with other Windows icons.
