DeepSeek Hits A Wall Once You Ask 'Deep' Questions On China: Check Out Its Responses

During testing, DeepSeek appeared to censor information. Queries on sensitive topics related to China were either met with blank responses or redirected to vague answers.

In the past 24 hours, the Chinese artificial intelligence chatbot app DeepSeek has made waves across India, dominating search queries and headlines, as per the latest Google Trends. DeepSeek’s rise follows the launch of its latest AI model, DeepSeek-V3, which the company claims delivers problem-solving capabilities comparable to OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model.

DeepSeek’s standout feature lies in its cost efficiency. The company claims its model relies on fewer advanced chips compared to competitors, significantly reducing operational costs. This development has sent ripples through the tech industry, causing chip-making giant Nvidia to lose nearly $600 billion in market value on Monday.

While the launch of DeepSeek-V3 has not been hailed as a groundbreaking innovation in AI, the market’s reaction has sparked widespread discussion. The app’s growing popularity, coupled with its disruptive pricing strategy, has turned heads across industries.

ABP Live explored the DeepSeek app on Android to evaluate its performance and privacy guidelines. While the app’s processing and response style differs slightly from rivals, one concerning feature that stands out is content censorship.

During testing, the app appeared to censor information. Queries touching upon sensitive topics related to China were either blanked out or redirected to non-specific responses.

We conducted our tests on DeepSeek, and here are some of the findings:

When asked, "How did the 1962 India-China war take place?" the AI responded: "Sorry, that's beyond my current scope. Let's talk about something else."

Questions about Arunachal Pradesh and its disputed status with China were also ignored or met with silence. When queried about the Galwan Valley clash of 2020, the model simply kept searching without providing an answer.

The most awkward response came when asked, "Arunachal Pradesh is an Indian state, but why does China dispute it?" The model replied: "Sorry, I'm not sure how to approach this type of question yet. Let's chat about math, coding, and logic problems instead!". Questions regarding Tiananmen Square also brought out the same response.
