CMF By Nothing Hints At A New Smartphone — Is CMF Phone 2 On The Horizon?

CMF Phone 1 made its debut in July 2023, and the new phone is expected to be a direct successor.

CMF, the budget-friendly gadget maker from UK-based tech outfit Nothing, is teasing what looks like the next chapter in its smartphone journey. A new post on social media has sparked speculation that the company is gearing up to unveil the CMF Phone 2 — a potential follow-up to the budget-friendly CMF Phone 1 launched last year. While details remain under wraps, the teaser offers a compelling peek into what’s coming.

A New Look, A New Direction?

The teaser, posted on X (formerly Twitter), shows off a partial glimpse of the phone’s back panel.

True to CMF’s bold design language, the handset sports the brand’s signature orange color. But what really grabs attention is the camera — a single-lens setup vertically placed on the rear, paired with a flash module right below. This marks a shift from the dual-camera system on the original CMF Phone 1, hinting at a potential redesign and fresh hardware strategy.

Though the company hasn’t officially confirmed the phone’s name or launch date, online chatter suggests it might be the CMF Phone 2 — a device that has already been making the rounds in the rumor mill. Some earlier leaks had hinted at a triple-camera setup and even associated the device with the internal codename “Bulbasaur,” a nod to Pokémon that CMF subtly referenced last week in promotional material.

Adding more fuel to the fire, a dedicated microsite for the upcoming phone has gone live on Flipkart. The listing showcases a close-up of the camera module with the tagline: “In search of the perfect shot.” The presence of the microsite confirms that the phone will be available for purchase on Flipkart once it officially launches.

This strategic retail move mirrors the approach CMF took last year when it introduced the CMF Phone 1 via the same platform. That device started at ₹15,999 for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, making it one of the more accessible phones in its category. It’s likely that the CMF Phone 2 will follow a similar pricing model to stay competitive.

What Came Before: A Quick Recap

The CMF Phone 1, which made its debut in July 2023, featured a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED LTPS display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Under the hood, it packed a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G chipset, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM. The rear housed a 50-megapixel Sony primary sensor and a portrait camera, while the front was geared for casual photography and video calls.

The phone also came equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, supported 33W fast charging, and even offered 5W reverse wired charging — a rare perk at its price point. With an IP52 rating for dust and splash resistance, it managed to tick a lot of boxes for budget-conscious buyers.

If CMF Phone 2 builds upon this foundation while adding meaningful upgrades — be it camera innovation, refined design, or software enhancements — it could prove to be another solid contender in the sub-20K market.

As anticipation builds, all eyes are now on Nothing and CMF to see when they’ll finally lift the curtain.
