87% Indian Job Seekers Use Generative AI To Enhance Resumes, Survey Shows

Traditional text-based resumes are found to be on the decline, with 79 per cent of hiring managers predicting their eventual obsolescence.

Indian job seekers are no stranger to AI, leveraging generative AI and digital tools in the hiring process, according to Canva’s latest 'New Year, New Job' report. The study highlights that 87 per cent of job seekers in India have used generative AI to update or create their resumes, showcasing the rising impact of technology in job applications.

The findings of the survey are based on responses from 6,000 job seekers and 4,200 hiring managers across 10 countries, including India. The survey, conducted between November 22 and December 4, 2024, reflects key trends shaping the hiring landscape in 2025.

Personalised Resumes, Creative Applications Take Center Stage

The report reveals that Indian candidates are setting a global benchmark for personalisation, with 63 per cent consistently tailoring their resumes, a rate significantly higher than in other countries.

Additionally, 77 per cent of hiring managers in India now prefer applications with interactive and visually engaging elements, while 69 per cent favour designs that stand out from traditional text-based resumes.

Social Media, AI Transform Recruitment

Social media has emerged as a critical tool in the Indian job market, with 96 per cent of job seekers using platforms like LinkedIn for networking and career advancement. The study also found that 85 per cent of hiring managers review LinkedIn profiles to assess candidates, underscoring the importance of maintaining a strong online presence.

AI is further reshaping recruitment processes in India, with 47 per cent of hiring managers using generative AI to summarise resumes or craft job descriptions. Notably, 95 per cent of hiring managers believe AI has streamlined onboarding processes, enhancing efficiency in the workplace.

  • AI Adoption: While 87 per cent of job seekers are using AI for resume building, 69 per cent of hiring managers support its use but emphasise the need for transparency, with 65 per cent urging candidates to disclose AI usage.
  • Rising Importance of Design Skills: 84 per cent of Indian job seekers consider design skills essential to stand out in the competitive job market.
  • Changing Formats: Traditional text-based resumes are on the decline, with 79 per cent of hiring managers predicting their eventual obsolescence.

Canva has emerged as a key enabler for professionals looking to elevate their job applications. In 2024 alone, 390 million resumes were created using Canva, with its AI-driven tools like Magic Write generating 13 million resume designs.

To support candidates in their job search, Canva has launched a dedicated 'New Year, New Job' hub, offering templates and resources for crafting standout resumes and portfolios.
