New M4 MacBook Air To Launch This Week? Here's What Apple Boss Tim Cook's Tweet Hints At

The upcoming MacBook Air is expected to be available in both 13-inch and 15-inch models, featuring Apple’s latest M4 chip.

Apple appears to be gearing up for a major announcement, with CEO Tim Cook hinting at the arrival of a new device in the company’s Air lineup. In a cryptic post on X, Cook shared a brief video featuring the phrase, “There’s something in the air,” and accompanied it with a caption stating, “this week.” While the teaser does not explicitly mention the product, reports strongly indicate that the long-anticipated M4-powered MacBook Air could be the centerpiece of the upcoming launch.

What To Expect From M4 MacBook Air?

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently suggested in his Power On newsletter that Apple is preparing to introduce the M4 MacBook Air in early March. Cook’s latest teaser seems to align with this prediction, further fueling expectations about the upcoming device. If the reports hold true, the new MacBook Air is set to bring notable enhancements over its predecessor, the M3 MacBook Air, which debuted in 2024.

The upcoming MacBook Air is expected to be available in both 13-inch and 15-inch models, featuring Apple’s latest M4 chip, designed to deliver improved efficiency and performance. The laptop is also likely to include Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 12-megapixel webcam with Center Stage functionality, and enhanced battery life. Additionally, Apple may increase the base RAM to 16GB, with a higher-end configuration offering up to 32GB, surpassing the 24GB maximum of the M3 version.

Interestingly, Apple’s use of the phrase “There’s something in the air” brings back memories of the original MacBook Air launch in 2008, when the company introduced the world’s first ultra-thin laptop with the same tagline. The choice of words has further strengthened speculation that the announcement will center around a new MacBook Air.

New iPads Also Expected This Month

Beyond the MacBook Air, Apple is reportedly preparing to launch new iPads in the coming weeks. According to Gurman, a refreshed iPad Air and the 11th-generation standard iPad are in development and are expected to be introduced separately from the MacBook Air.

The upcoming iPad Air is speculated to be powered by either the M3 or M4 chip, while the iPad 11 may feature the A16 Bionic or A17 Pro processor. Despite the anticipated internal upgrades, both devices are unlikely to undergo significant design changes.

While initial speculation suggested that Apple might unveil both the MacBook Air and the new iPads simultaneously, recent reports indicate that the iPads could arrive later in March or early April. This staggered release strategy could allow Apple to keep consumer focus on each product individually.

With Cook’s teaser setting the stage, anticipation is running high for what Apple has in store for its Air series this week.
