‘AI For Good And For All’: India Showcases $3 Billion Artificial Intelligence Push At Shanghai Symposium

At a Shanghai symposium, Consul General Pratik Mathur highlighted India's growing AI leadership, emphasizing Prime Minister Modi's vision of "AI for Good and for All."

India’s AI aspirations took centre stage at a major technology symposium hosted by the Singapore Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, with Consul General Pratik Mathur spotlighting the country’s growing global leadership in artificial intelligence.

The Consulate General of India in Shanghai, through a post on social media, shared, “#AIForGoodAndForAll 🇮🇳 🌍 India’s AI vision shines in Shanghai ☀️ 🌇” and announced CG Pratik Mathur’s participation in the annual event organised by one of the largest and oldest business chambers in the region.

The invitation to address the gathering, the Consulate noted, was a testament to the global recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of harnessing AI responsibly, for the greater good and for all—a vision he articulated at the Paris Summit.

In his address, Consul General Mathur said, “It is a privilege to address you on India’s extraordinary journey in artificial intelligence. Without further ado, I would like to begin by talking about how India’s commitment to responsible AI shines globally. Prime Minister Modi’s co-chairing of the Paris Summit underscores our leadership in fostering AI for good and for all.”

'India Is Poised To Lead The Evolution Of AI': Consul General Mathur

Highlighting India’s rapidly evolving AI landscape, he pointed out that the country is home to a vibrant startup ecosystem, ranked 19th globally, with Bengaluru among the top 10 startup hubs in the world. He noted that more than 4,000 AI startups are actively transforming sectors such as healthcare, through AI-powered diagnostics, and agriculture, where technology is being used to assess crop quality in real time.

“India’s vision is bold,” he added, citing key initiatives such as a $3 billion investment in AI infrastructure, the National Quantum Mission, and the establishment of 25 AI Centres of Excellence. These, he said, are propelling innovation in diverse sectors, including agriculture, cleantech, and spacetech.

Mathur also emphasised the inclusivity of the government’s “AI for All” mission, which seeks to ensure that the benefits of AI reach every citizen, while also preserving India’s linguistic diversity and driving the development of smart cities.

“Looking ahead,” he said, “India is poised to lead the evolution of AI—from agentic systems to multimodal singularity and, eventually, Artificial General Intelligence. With our strategic advantage, India is not just participating in the AI revolution but shaping it, creating an AI for all that uplifts humanity.”

He concluded his remarks by expressing enthusiasm for the subsequent sessions, stating, “With that, I bring my brief address to a close. Look forward to hearing from our speakers and panelists today.”
