No More Aadhaar Photocopies: New AI-Powered App Promises Face ID-Based Instant Verification
The new Aadhaar app could be a game-changer for routine verifications at hotels, airports, stores, and other places.

The days of scrambling to find photocopies of your Aadhaar card before hotel check-ins or flight boarding may soon be behind you. In a significant digital leap, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday unveiled a revamped Aadhaar app designed to make identity verification smoother, safer, and fully digital.
The new app, developed in partnership with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), introduces artificial intelligence-powered face recognition and QR code-based verification to enable quick and secure identity checks, right from your smartphone.

AI Meets Aadhaar: Say Hello to Digital ID
Taking to social media platform X, Minister Vaishnaw announced the launch of the app, calling it a major upgrade in how Aadhaar is used. The key highlight? Users can now verify their identity in real-time using face authentication and a secure QR scan — no physical card or paper copies required.
"Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making a UPI payment," Vaishnaw wrote, drawing a comparison to India’s popular digital payment system.
The app, currently in its final testing phase, aims to roll out nationwide soon. It is designed to ensure users retain complete control over what data they share, when, and with whom.
No Card, No Copies — Just Consent
The new Aadhaar app will be a game-changer for routine verifications at hotels, airports, stores, and other places where Aadhaar details are often requested. With this mobile-first solution, individuals can scan a QR code at any authentication point and instantly verify their identity using Face ID, directly from their phone.
"No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shops or during travel. The Aadhaar App is secure and shareable only with the user's consent. 100 per cent digital and secure," Vaishnaw emphasized.
Not only does this shift reduce the risks associated with sharing physical documents, but it also tightens control over data privacy.
Your Aadhaar, Your Rules
Another standout feature of the app is selective data sharing. Instead of handing over full identity details, users can choose to share only what’s essential. The app essentially puts the power of data sharing back in the hands of citizens, reinforcing security and consent-driven access.
With India increasingly embracing digital-first governance and services, this Aadhaar app could mark a new phase in identity management — frictionless, fast, and fully secure.
