'Violence Outside Raj Bhavan And Lens Inside': Bengal Governor's Veiled Attack On Mamata Govt

West Bengal Governor launched an indirect attack on the TMC as he said that there is a lot of violence outside the Raj Bhavan while there "lens inside".

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose launched an indirect attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday and said that there is 'violence outside' and 'lens' inside the Raj Bhavan. Bose told the media that "there is a lot of violence outside the Raj Bhavan and lens inside". The reference to 'lens' seemed related to his earlier complaints in which he said that he was being monitored. He was addressing a gathering at a function to swear-in the newly elected TMC MLA, Nirmal Chandra Roy, from Dhupguri district. The event was organised at the Palatial Raj Bhavan.

The West Bengal Governor wrote to the state government and the Union Home Ministry on Thursday in which he alleged that he was being "tapped and tracked." In the letter, he requested for state-of-the-art security system at Raj Bhavan including the installation of jammers and de-bugging of the area, reported news agency PTI while citing sources.

The relations between Bose and the state government have remained tense for quite some time. He earlier visited areas where violence broke out during the panchayat polls which were held in July. The relations further deteriorated when he bypassed the recommendations of the state government on university appointments and called meetings of vice-chancellors, reported PTI.

TMC's newly elected MLA won the Dhugpuri by-polls on September 5 when he defeated BJP's Tapasi Roy by a margin of 4,309 votes. The Dhugpuri seat was earlier held by BJP MLA Bishnupada Roy who died back in July.

The swearing-in function was attended by TMC chief whip Tapas Roy and a couple of family members of the newly elected MLA. Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, however, was not present at the occasion.

The Mamata Banerjee-led government and Raj Bhavan had been going up against each other over Roy’s swearing-in programme for more than a week now. Both sides wanted to organise this event. The state government wanted to hold the swearing-in ceremony at the Assembly whereas the Governor wanted it to be organised at the Raj Bhavan, PTI reported.

Finally, it was concluded that Bose would administer the swearing-in ceremony on Saturday at the Raj Bhavan.
