Wayanad Landslides: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Announces Rs 5L Ex Gratia Sum For Kannadiga Victims
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also informed that Minister Santosh Lad was also sent to Wayanad to take charge of rescue operations in the neighbouring state.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to each of the Kannadigas who lost their lives in the landslides that struck Wayanad on Tuesday. The CM also informed that Minister Santosh Lad was also sent to Wayanad to take charge of rescue operations in the neighbouring state.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah tweets, "...This is a very heinous tragedy, the fact that Kannadigas lost their lives in this tragedy made it even more painful. The deceased Kannadigas will be given a compensation of Rs.5 lakh each...Already, two senior IAS officers of the state, NDRF team and Army teams are busy in the rescue work. Today Minister Santosh Lad is being sent to Wayanad to take charge of defense work. Saving lives of the victims is our first priority and our government is working hard to bring the Kannadigas in distress safely to Nadi."

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah urged corporates to provide substantial support for the relief of individuals affected by the multiple landslides in Wayanad district. Karnataka CM also appealed to corporate leaders for their assistance in rebuilding the disaster-stricken areas through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Later, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also sought contributions for Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. Taking to X, Kerala CM said, "In times of tragedy, holding hands is the purest form of solidarity, a promise that no one faces adversity alone. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference."
