Rain And Thunderstorm Disrupt Normal Life In Hyderabad, Claim 12 Lives In Bengal

The heavy rain and thunderstorm in Hyderabad resulted in widespread waterlogging on roads and uprooting of trees in various areas. (DRF) personnel of GHMC took steps to clear the water on the roads.

New Delhi: Hyderabad grappled with the heavy rain and thunderstorms, resulting in disruptions to electricity supply, traffic congestion, and various rain-related incidents across the city on Tuesday evening. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) head office received  the highest rainfall, recording 84.5 mm between 8:30 am and 6 pm. 

The heavy rain and thunderstorm in Hyderabad resulted in widespread waterlogging on roads and uprooting of trees in various areas. The Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel of GHMC took steps to clear the water on the roads, an official release said, reported PTI.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who reviewed the situation from Warangal where he was campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls, directed officials to take steps to drain out the water on the roads and to resume electricity supply.

Heavy rain claims 12 lives in Bengal

Twelve individuals, including five in Purba Bardhaman district, died due to thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and wall collapses amidst heavy rain that swept across various districts of West Bengal on Monday night, as confirmed by CM Mamata Banerjee.

The downpour, which began in the evening and continued through the night, brought relief to the state capital Kolkata and other districts that had been enduring sweltering heat for several days. 

CM Banerjee in a post on X, "Profoundly sad to know that 9 persons died due to thunderstorms and lightning last night (5 in Purba Burdwan, 2 each in Paschim Medinipur and Purulia), while 2 more persons died due to wall collapse in Nadia and 1 more due to tree collapse in South 24 Parganas".

CM Banerjee assured that the disaster management department would extend relief and ex-gratia to the next of kin of those who perished during the tragic incident. She offered her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the twelve fellow citizens of Bengal
