There has been a constant wrangling within the state Congress unit on several issues since Charanjit Singh Channi took charge as the Chief Minister. Navjot Singh Sidhu had even resigned as the state Congress president and objected to certain official appointments made by the Channi-led government. Amid differences between the two, Sidhu has forced the Channi government to bow down to his demands several times in the last two months. Giving in to Sidhu's demands, Chief Minister Channi recently accepted APS Deol's resignation and it was only after then that Sidhu went back to the Punjab Congress and resumed his work.
Navjot Singh Sidhu further questioned the Channi-led government's decision to cut power tariffs and reduce VAT. He even went on to say that efforts are being made to lure people before the elections.
