Mamata Banerjee Suffers 'Cerebral Concussion' After Fall, Receives Three Stitches: Hospital

SSKM Hospital stated that they had urged the CM to stay at the hospital for further treatment, however, she went home.

A day after West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) founder Mamata Banerjee was discharged, the doctors at the state-run SSKM Hospital on Friday stated that the TMC leader had a cerebral concussion, for which she was treated by neurologist and cardiologist. The hospital further stated that they had urged the CM to stay at the hospital for further treatment, however, she went home.

"She was requested to stay here but went home, she will be in close monitor," the hospital stated.

Speaking about her injuries, the hospital stated: "With a history of fall due to some push from behind, had a cerebral concussion she was treated by neurologist and cardiologist as well. Three stitches, one on nose and two on forehead."

Refuting that she was physically pushed by someone, the hospital said: "She was not pushed physically from behind by anyone. Rather , it felt like a force or sensation that caused her to stumble and sustain injuries."

The incident occurred shortly after Banerjee returned home following her attendance at an event held in memory of veteran Congress and TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee at Gariahat in south Kolkata.

TMC leader Rajib Banerjee mentioned that the chief minister's nephew and TMC national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, was present at home when the incident took place.

"Abhishek Banerjee took the chief minister to hospital," stated Rajib.

Photographs of the chief minister, displaying blood from her forehead, quickly spread across social media platforms. These images were disseminated by the TMC's social media team just moments after the accident. Leaders from various political parties, including the BJP, extended their wishes for her swift recovery.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his well wishes for Banerjee's speedy recovery in a post on X.

This marked the second injury the chief minister endured on the eve of an election.
