IMD Issues 'Orange' Alert In Mumbai & 2 Other Districts As Incessant Rain Continues

Amid heavy downpours, IMD on Tuesday issued an 'Orange' alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in the said districts today.

As rain continues to lash parts of Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange' alert for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts viz. Thane and Raigad. Heavy to very rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places of the said districts on Tuesday, said a civil official. According to the news agency PTI, most parts of Mumbai witnessed an overcast sky, however, there have been no downpours since morning. The intensity of rainfall decreased in Mumbai after a heavy downpour last week.

The IMD Mumbai in its "district forecast and warnings" on Monday issued an 'orange' alert for the city while predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over the period of the next 24 hours. It issued the 'Orange' alert for Thane and Raigad as well. Apart from it, a 'Yellow' alert has also been issued in the state for the Palghar district, reported PTI.

The island city, eastern and western suburbs received an average rainfall of 30.81mm, 55.78 mm and 55.20 mm, respectively, in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Tuesday.

There was no report of waterlogging anywhere in the city on Tuesday.

Trains services of the Central Railway and Western Railway were normal, according to the transport authorities.

Bus services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking were also normal without any diversion of routes, a civic spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the IMD on Tuesday sounded a 'Red' alert for the state of Telangana till Thursday. IMD Hyderabad Director Dr K Nagaratna while talking to news agency ANI said that light to moderate rainfall is expected in several districts of Telangana for the next 4-5 days. Hyderabad also faced heavy rain and consequently traffic snarls and waterlogging on Monday as an ‘upper air cyclonic circulation’ over the Bay of Bengal continued to gain momentum, as per a report of the Mint.
