4 Dead In Fire At Electric Hardware Shop In Pune's Pimpri-Chinchwad

Four people died in a fire in the Purnanagar area of Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune district on Wednesday.

Four people died in a fire in the Purnanagar area of Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune district on Wednesday, as reported by news agency ANI. PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) Fire Department said that fire gutted an electric hardware shop on the ground floor of a residential building around 5 am today. Further details are awaited. 

The cause of the fire couldn't be ascertained till the time of filing this report. "A fire broke out on the ground floor of a residential building around 5 am today. We can confirm four deaths in the incident," an official of the Fire Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation said, as quoted by ANI. Officials said that the shop was completely gutted in the fire.

In another incident, a fire broke out in a shopping mall in Pathapatnam, of Srikakulam district due to an electrical short circuit. Fire engines have reached the spot to put out the fire. Details awaited.

Earlier on Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at a firecracker shop in Karnataka's Haveri district, killing three people, reported news agency ANI. Soon after the fire incident was reported, several fire tenders rushed to the spot to bring the flame under control. Haveri Superintendent of Police (SP) Shivakumar said, "Three bodies have been found at the site of the fire incident," reported ANI.

A video shared by news agency ANI shows the firecracker shop being engulfed in flames as fire tenders arrive on the spot to douse the fire.

In a similar incident on Sunday, three people were killed and several others were wounded after a fire broke out at a hotel in Mumbai's Santacruz district. Following the incident, eight people were rescued from there and rushed to hospital, according to a fire official.  "Eight people were rescued out of which three were injured and were rushed to hospital where they died. Fire broke out on the second floor and reached the third floor. Fire has been completely doused," a fire official had stated. 

"We tried to control the fire immediately and we rescued eight people. The three injured were shifted to VN Desai Hospital. All three were declared dead... The fire was on the second floor in room no. 204 and it spread to the third floor. The reason for the fire is under investigation," he further stated. 

According to officials, the Mumbai civic council recently issued a notice to the Galaxy Hotel, where the fire broke out, for failing to follow fire safety standards, and a case was filed in court. The hotel allegedly made structural alterations as well.
