Auto-Rickshaw Driver Attacks 9-Yr-Old Boy With Knife In Hyderabad, Flees

The minor, identified as Aditya, was playing outside his house when the accused approached him and attacked him with a knife.

A nine-year-old boy was seriously injured after an auto-rickshaw driver attacked him with a knife in Hyderabad. The incident took place on Monday in Rajiv Gruh Kalpa which comes under the Jagadgirigutta police station area. The minor, identified as Aditya, was playing outside his house when the accused approached him and attacked him with a knife. Neighbours started shouting and called for help after seeing the boy bleeding. The accused immediately fled from the scene.

Police received information about the incident following which they rushed to the spot and took the boy to a hospital. An investigation into the matter has been launched to identify the accused and nab him. The motive of the said attack has not been ascertained yet but, it is believed that the accused was mentally ill.

Earlier, in a similar incident in June, a 27-year-old autorickshaw driver had an argument with his passengers over the fare price following which he attacked them. He killed one of the passengers and injured the other. Both of them worked as construction labourers in the city, reported the Hindustan Times.

The passengers took an autorickshaw from Chandapura to go to Yesvantpur. The accused, SR Ashwath, agreed to take them to their destination for ₹100. According to the Hindustan Times, the Inspector of Subramanya Nagar said, “Once in the auto, the driver, midway, started demanding ₹1,500 per head, which is is ₹3,000 in total... the brothers refused to pay the amount, which led to heated arguments between the three."

Soon after, the argument got escalated following which Ashwath punched the first passenger in the abdomen, chest and face repeatedly. Police who were patrolling in the area spotted the victims and took them to a hospital where one of them was declared dead, reported Hindustan Times. 

A case under Section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged in Subramanya Nagar station after which the accused got arrested.
