Earlier, the under-construction Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge collapsed into the water in Bhagalpur on June 4. People around the area said that it felt like a major bomb blast happened when the bridge collapsed into the river at around 6 pm. This was the second time the bridge has collapsed into the river. Rakesh Kumar, who was an eyewitness of the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge collapse, while speaking to ANI said that there was so much chaos that they thought it was a bomb blast. Demanding a proper investigation, he said that this is the second time the bridge has collapsed but no one has investigated the reason behind it.
In a separate blast incident, the Egra blast happened last month at an illegal firecracker factory which claimed the lives of 12 people and left many injured in West Bengal's East Medinipur district. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the Purba Medinipur district 11 days after the blast. Upon addressing the people there, she said the tragedy could've been averted if the intelligence had worked correctly, reported news agency PTI. After distributing compensation cheques to relatives of those killed and injured in the blast, she said, "I will bow my head down to you and apologise for the incident (blast at the illegal fire factory on May 16)... Had the intelligence worked properly then this blast could have been averted."
