Tokyo Paralympics: India's Harvinder Singh Scripts History, Wins Bronze Medal In Recurve Archery

India's Harvinder Singh, who was taking part in his third shoot off of Tokyo Paralympics, aimed perfect 10 to find the podium finish. Going first, the Korean aimed an 8.

New Delhi: Indian archer Harvinder Singh defeated Korea's Min Su Kim by 6-5 after a shoot-off to script history by winning a bronze medal on Friday in the men's individual recurve at Tokyo Paralympics 2020. This is India's third medal on Friday at the Tokyo Paralympic Games and overall 13th medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.

The result of the match was decided by a shoot-off as both Harvinder Singh and South Korea's Min Su Kim shared the spoils in the five sets to find a podium finish. This is India's first medal in archery at the Games. 

Harvinder Singh won the first set as he aimed 10, 7, 9 in comparison to 9, 6, 9 of Kim to get a brilliant start against the South Korean. In reply, Kim staged a superb comeback to clinch the second essay by scoring 29.

Harvinder won the third set by 28-25 to again shift the momentum towards him. The match went into the decider after both Harvinder and Kim shared the spoils in the fourth set. Showcasing her skills and class, Min Su Kim clinched the fifth set (decider) by 27-26 to force the shoot-off.

India's shooter Avani Lekhara has won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event and also the bronze medal in the 50m rifle. In the qualifiers, Avani had made it to the finals while securing the second position. Avani is the first female player from India to win a gold medal in Paralympics.  Earlier today, Praveen Kumar secured a silver medalfor India in high jump.
