Rohit, Rahul Break Ganguly And Sehwag's 17-Year-Old Record

The duo put on a massive 227-run opening partnership and broke the 17-year-old record previously held by former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag. The former cricketers had put on a 196-run opening stand in 2002 against West Indies at Rajkot

Vizag: KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma on Wednesday registered the highest ever opening partnership by an Indian pair against West Indies in the One Day Internationals. They achieved the feat during the second ODI against the Windies. The duo put on a massive 227-run opening partnership and broke the 17-year-old record previously held by former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag. The former cricketers had put on a 196-run opening stand in 2002 against West Indies at Rajkot. Earlier, Rohit Sharma became the leading run-scorer in the 50-over format in 2019. Sharma went on to register his seventh century in this calendar year and as a result, he surpassed Virat Kohli to achieve the feat. The 32-year-old Sharma so far has 1382 runs in the ODI format in 2019 while Kohli has 1292 runs to his credit.
Fluent tons from India openers Rohit Sharma (159) and KL Rahul (102) and a fine finishing touch from batting pair of Pant-Iyer helped India finish their innings on 387/5 in the 2nd ODI against West Indies at Vizag.
Wicket-keeper batsman Rishab Pant was unstoppable and went all guns blazing against Windies bowlers at Vizag. Pant shared a 22-ball 70 partnership Iyer before he got caught by Pooran for an explosive 39. Meanwhile, Iyer, who brought up his fifty in just 28 balls, scored 28 runs in the 47th over -  most by an Indian in an over in ODI. Also, in the 47th over, Pant and Iyer scored 31 runs - the most for India in an over in ODI history. As every good thing comes to an end, so did Iyer's (53 off 32 balls) knock after he got caught behind off Cotrell's bowling.
