Rain Threatens RCB vs KKR Clash - What It Means For Playoff Qualification

If rain forces RCB vs KKR IPL 2025 match to be cancelled, both teams will receive one point each.

After a week-long suspension due to India-Pakistan tensions, Indian Premier League (IPL) IPL 2025 is set to resume on May 17 with a high-stakes encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. But now, weather concerns are taking center stage.

Heavy Rain Predicted in Bengaluru

According to AccuWeather, there's an 84% chance of rain during the day and 94% at night in Bengaluru on Saturday (May 17). The rain is expected to begin in the afternoon, with a 40% chance during match hours (7-9 PM). With the stadium already waterlogged after recent downpours, the possibility of a washout is real.

What if RCB vs KKR match is abandoned?

If rain forces the match to be cancelled, both teams will receive one point each. RCB, currently on 16 points from 11 matches (8 wins, 3 losses), would move to 17 points with the extra point - enough to guarantee a playoff spot. While 16 points have been enough in past seasons, the close competition this year means RCB would welcome that additional point.

Currently, RCB and Gujarat Titans lead the table with 16 points each, and a shared point could help RCB solidify a top-two finish.
