Aakash Chopra Changes His Twitter DP To Back Under-Fire Arshdeep Singh

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has come out in support of Arshdeep Singh by changing his display picture on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh has found himself getting targeted on social media ever since Pakistan's five-wicket win over India in Asia Cup 2022 Super-4 match on Sunday. The 23-year-old pacer dropped Asif Ali's simple catch in the 18th over when he was batting on zero. The dropped catch could have been the turning point of the match as Ali went on to play a quick-fire 8-ball 16 runs cameo to take Pakistan over the line. Arshdeep bowled the last over and did a remarkable job of taking the match to the last delivery. Ever since the match ended, Singh has been subjected to abuse on social media as trolls are blaming him for India's loss. Arshdeep might have dropped a crucial catch but he conceded just 27 runs in 3.5 overs in a match in which the entire Indian bowling attack had an off outing.

Virat Kohli backs under-fire Arshdeep Singh

“Anyone can commit mistakes under pressure. It was a big game, and the situation was a bit tight," Kohli said at the post-match presser.

“I remember when I was playing my first Champions Trophy game against Pakistan, and I played a very poor shot off Shahid Afridi’s bowling. I kept looking at the ceiling till 5 in the morning. I was up all night and couldn’t sleep. I thought it would be the end of my career and never get another chance," he added.

Kohli emphasised one should learn from the mistakes.

“That’s a natural feeling. But there are senior players around you. We’ll come together again for the next game. So, it’s all about learning in a good environment and when a similar situation arrives again, you look forward to it and be ready.

“I will give credit to the captain and the coach for making such an environment in which the players feel that everything is fine, and we’ll go for it next time. So, there will be mistakes but you need to accept them and learn from them so that you can be prepared to face such situations again," Kohli said further.
