India crush Kenya to lift maiden Intercontinental Cup

India crushed Kenya for the second time in the Intercontinental Cup to claim the coveted trophy with 2-0 win on Sunday. The jam-packed Mumbai Football Arena witnessed the Indian team who created history by winning the first ever Intercontinental Cup title. Indian captain Sunil Chhetri stood out to be the star of the match. He scored at the 7th and 28th minute to provide a comfortable lead for his team. The first goal came when Kenya’s Bernard Oginga gave away a free-kick. Anirudh Thapa took the free-kick and Chhetri converted it into a goal. The second goal came when Anas Edathodika passed the ball to the Indian skipper, who managed his way between the Kenyan defenders Jockins Atudo and Micheal Kibwage to give the team its second goal of the match. The Indian defense which seemed a bit shaken in the previous match against New Zealand was also in its top form, giving lesser opportunities to strikers. It was also a remarkable performance by Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh who was at his best, making it difficult of the Kenyans to find the back of the net. Chhetri has now equaled his goal tally with Argentina’s Football star Lionel Messi with 64 goals. He is just behind Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo who leads with 81 goals in international matches.
