WATCH: Shane Dowrich gets injured during second Test against India

Thanks to the revised rules, substitute fielders are now allowed to bat, bowl or keep wickets if a player gets ruled out of the ongoing match due to injury

West Indies wicketkeper Shane Dowrich suffered an injury to his knee during the first session of day two of the second Test against India in Hyderabad. The 26-year-old barbados player went down in pain and was taken off the field when an awkwardly bouncing ball hit him in the fleshy part of his knee in the third over of the Indian innings.

Jahmar Hamilton replaced Dowrich as the substitute and took over the keeping duties as he was immediately given medical attention by the team physio.

Thanks to the revised rules, substitute fielders are now allowed to bat, bowl or keep wickets if a player gets ruled out of the ongoing match due to injury.

Aas per quoted in Sportskeeda, "It was felt that, if the original wicketkeeper was genuinely injured, then a substitute should be allowed to take over, but that the umpires should control the situation to prevent abuse," the MCC explained in a summary of their amendments to Code.

India was 308/4 at stumps against West Indies on Day 2 of the second and final Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Saturday. Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant were unbeaten on 75 and 85 runs respectively as the hosts now trail only by 3 runs against the visitor's first innings total of 311.
