Wasim Akram Slams PCB's Independence Day Video For Excluding Imran Khan

Former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram has taken to social media to criticise a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the country's Independence Day on August 14 (Monday). Notably, the video did not feature Imran Khan, the cricketer turned-politician who had led Pakistan to their only ODI World Cup triumph to date in 1992. The video featured some the country's top players and highlights of the country's cricketing history since 1952, which was when they played their first international match.

Taking to Twitter, Akram, who was the part of that 1992 World Cup-winning Pakistan team, wrote on Wednesday that he was shocked to see the video. He even urged PCB to delete the clip and apologise for making no mention of Imran in it.

"After long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB's short clip on the history of Pakistan cricket minus the great Imran Khan… political differences apart but Imran Khan is an icon of world cricket and developed Pakistan into a strong unit in his time and gave us a pathway… PCB should delete the video and apologise," Akram's post on Twitter read.

Wasim isn't the only one from the Pakistan cricket community to have slammed the video. Urooj Mumtaz, ex-captain of the Pakistan women's team, had also tweeted about Imran's omission from the video released on August 14. She even pointed out that as many as "11 images" were used from Pakistan's 1992 World Cup triumph but none of them featured the captain of that side.
