Update on Rishabh Pant's nasty injury

Pant was kept under observation after an initial check-up and it was revealed after the match that the Indian wicket-keeper only had small bruises on his fingers because of the impact.

Rishabh Pant has no serious injury and only some lacerations to his fingers of both hands and left shoulder which should not hold him from playing the next match at Pune on Saturday. Pant rammed onto the advertising boards while attempting a catch during the second ODI against the West Indies at Visakhapatnam and in the process hurt his shoulder and fingers.

Pant was kept under observation after an initial check-up and it was revealed after the match that the Indian wicket-keeper only had small bruises on his fingers because of the impact.

The incident occurred in the 36th over of the Windies chase when Rovman Powell skied a Yuzvebdra Chahal delivery straight over the back of his head. Pant, standing at long on, did well to set himself under the ball and hold onto the catch but the momentum took him over the ropes and he slammed onto advertising hoardings. He was in a lot of discomfort and walked off the field soon after the incident.

The remaining three matches in the series is of utmost importance for Pant’s ODI career, especially if he wants to travel to England as MS Dhoni’s back-up in the World Cup. The 21-year-old made his debut in the first match in Guwahati but only got a chance to bat in the second ODI at Visakhapatnam which ended in a thrilling tie. Pant’s contribution was 17 runs off 13 balls.
