Team India Under Rohit Sharma Sets Unwanted Record In Crushing Adelaide Defeat

IND vs AUS 2nd Test match in Adelaide became the shortest-ever Test between India and Australia, lasting only 1031 balls.

Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, Team India suffered a heavy 10-wicket defeat in IND vs AUS pink-ball Test in Adelaide, marking his fourth consecutive loss as Test captain. This defeat also added an unwanted record to his name, as IND vs AUS 2nd Test match in Adelaide became the shortest-ever Test between India and Australia, lasting only 1031 balls.

After resuming Day 3 at 128/5, India could only add 47 more runs before being bowled out for 175 in 36.5 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the top scorer with 42 runs, while Australia's captain Pat Cummins led the attack with a brilliant five-wicket haul. The hosts had to chase down India's modest target of 19 runs in just 3.2 overs, with Nathan McSweeney (10) and Usman Khawaja (9) steering their team to victory.

India's 10-wicket loss in Adelaide also placed Rohit Sharma alongside Dutta Gaikwad (1959), MS Dhoni (2011, 2014), and Virat Kohli (2020-21) as the only Indian captains to lose four consecutive Tests. The record for the longest losing streak as Indian captain still belongs to MAK Pataudi, who lost six consecutive Tests in 1967-68, followed by Sachin Tendulkar, who lost five in a row in 1999.

The third Test of BGT between India and Australia will be played at the Gabba in Brisbane, starting from December 14 onwards.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the only two Indian captains to suffer a 10-wicket defeat in all formats of international cricket. Rohit's recent form has been dismal, with his performances in the last 12 Test innings showing a troubling trend: 6, 5, 23, 8, 2, 52, 0, 8, 18, 11, 3, and 6. His batting average during this period stands at a lowly 11.83.

While it is highly unlikely that the team management will drop Rohit Sharma as captain for the remaining three Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests, fans have taken to social media, expressing their frustrations and calling for him to retire from Test cricket.
