Windies debutant Sunil Ambris entered the record books for all wrong reasons as he became the first ever batsman in Test history to be hit-out for a golden duck on his first Test innings.

New Delhi: Windies debutant Sunil Ambris entered the record books for all wrong reasons as he became the first ever batsman in Test history to be hit-out for a golden duck on his first innings.

Ambris got his Test cap from Windies legend Joel Garner after Kane Richardson won the toss and opted to bowl first in Wellington.

The tourists’ openers provided a decent start as the managed a 59-run stand for the first wicket but then it was pacer Neil Wagner, who turned the table in New Zealand’s favour with 3 quick wickets before lunch. The 31-year-old continued to wreak havoc as he went to pick seven for 39.

The incident took place in the 30th over when the Windies batsman approached the crease to face the first ball of his Test career under the maroon helmet, played a decent shot towards the fine leg but unfortunately stood on his stumps, giving debut to remember.

Ambris became the 11th batsman to be hit-out on Test debut but none of them have been dismissed of the very first ball of their career.
