New Delhi: Veteran batsman and one of the prominent names in India’s domestic circuit - Subramaniam Badrinath has decided to quit first class cricket and concentrate on T20 format.

The 36-year-old played a key role in Hyderabad’s resurgence in the Ranji trophy last season and helped his side promote to the elite group.

The former Chennai Super Kings batsman in an interview to Telangana Today said, ““I have not announced my retirement from cricket. I’m going to play Tamil Nadu Premier League T20 but I have decided to call it a day in first class cricket as it requires a lot of travel. I have to be away from family. It is a personal decision and I have played close to 20 years of first class cricket. I thought I needed a break.”

The domestic run-machine has been part of the victorious Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, and was a regular feature in their team for the initial seasons. He played a total of 95 games until 2013 for CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore, but was overlooked in the 2014 auctions, and hasn’t played an IPL game ever since.

Badrinath has amassed 10425 runs in first class cricket and slammed 32 centuries in span of 20 years. However, he could only manage 2 Test caps and 7 ODI appearances for India.
