WEATHER SHIFT: Pre-Monsoon Showers Bring Relief, IMD Warns of Below-Normal Rainfall

A sudden change in weather conditions across North India has brought temporary relief from intense heat, as pre-monsoon showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds swept through several states. Regions including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Rajasthan witnessed rainfall and storm activity, offering respite from the scorching temperatures that had gripped large parts of the country. In Uttar Pradesh, several districts experienced thunderstorms accompanied by lightning activity. In one incident reported from Kushinagar, lightning struck a tree, causing sparks and visible damage after the impact, highlighting the risks associated with severe weather conditions. Meanwhile, in Bihar, heavy rainfall brought a noticeable drop in temperature, making the weather pleasant in many areas. In Uttarakhand, particularly in Mussoorie, strong winds and heavy rain disrupted normal life. Trees were uprooted in several locations, and damage to property was reported. Local authorities are assessing the situation and clearing affected areas as restoration work continues. Rajasthan, including Jaipur, saw a mixed weather pattern with intermittent cloud cover and light drizzle in some areas, while heat conditions persisted in others. Residents reported partial relief but continued discomfort due to humidity and rising temperatures in recent days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), despite the current pre-monsoon activity, overall rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season may remain below normal. The forecast suggests that between June and September, rainfall could be around 90% of the long-period average, indicating a potentially weaker monsoon season influenced by evolving El Niño conditions. While the current weather changes have provided short-term relief, officials caution that thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds may continue in parts of North India in the coming days.
