Steve Smith Retirement: Steve Smith retires from ODIs after Australia's Champions Trophy semi-final loss, but remains available for Tests and T20Is.

Steve Smith Retirement: Australian cricket star Steve Smith has officially bid farewell to One-Day Internationals, following Australia's semi-final defeat to India in Dubai. The four-wicket loss marked the end of Australia's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign — and, as it turns out, Smith’s ODI journey. The veteran featured in 170 ODIs, scoring 5800 runs for Australia at an average of 43.28 and a strike rate of 86.96 per 100 balls faced, with 12 centuries and 35 fifties and a highest score of 164 against New Zealand at the SCG in 2016.

Smith concludes his ODI career with 170 matches, ranking as Australia's 16th-most capped men's player in the format and the 12th-highest run-scorer. He also led the team in 64 ODIs, finishing with a 50% win rate as captain.

Smith expressed his gratitude for his ODI career, calling it a fantastic journey filled with incredible moments. He highlighted winning two World Cups as a major achievement and cherished the memories shared with his teammates.

"Now is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup so it feels like the right time to make way.

"Test cricket remains a priority and I am really looking forward to the World Test Championship final, the West Indies in the winter and then England at home. I feel I still have a lot to contribute on that stage," he said further.
