Sri Lanka captain Chandimal, coach, manager admit to breaching ICC code

The ICC, on the other hand, has appointed Michael Beloff QC as the judicial commissioner to hear the case

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal, head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha have admitted to the charges imposed by the ICC following the second Test against West Indies in St Lucia.

The trio was charged for their involvement in team’s refusal to take the field on the day three of the second test. The incident happened after Chandimals’ ball-tampering charge and caused a two-hour delay in the start of play

The ICC, on the other hand, has appointed Michael Beloff QC as the judicial commissioner to hear the case. The step was taken following the Article 5.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, following the trio’s admission.

The hearing will be held on Friday to establish the procedural structure on the Level 3 charges.

What are Level 3 charges?

Under all the Level 3 breaches, a player could be imposed with between 4 to 8 suspension points. It means that Chandimal could be sentenced with an additional suspension of two Tests including the one-match restriction levelled by match referee Javagal Srinath.

And if full eight suspension points are imposed, Chandimal would miss out the final Test against West Indies followed by the upcoming two-Test series and four ODIs against South Africa.
