'Spell That Turned The Game': Joe Root Singles Out The Moment That Changed The Match | Bumrah Spell
IND Vs ENG: England skipper Joe Root feels that his team should take some inspiration from that spell bowled by Bumrah.
IND Vs ENG: If at all you have to pick a single moment that changed the course of the match in the Oval Test, there would be quite a few options in your head. Rohit Sharma's 100 in the second innings, Shardul Thakur's crucial innings down the order in both the innings or Rohit Sharma's dropped catches are some of the significant moments in the Test match, but Jasprit Bumrah's spell after lunch on Day 5 supersedes them all. England skipper Joe Root feels that his team should take some inspiration from that spell bowled by Bumrah.
Once the ball started reversing, Jasprit Bumrah raised his hand up and picked the all-important wickets of Olli Pope and Jonny Bairstow. Both of these batsmen were the core strength of England's middle-order. After they were out bowled, Kohli knew that victory was just a matter of time.
India have taken four wickets since lunch.

“Something we’ve got to get better at is recognising the key moments in games and forcing it a little bit more. We didn’t quite manage to do it this time. You look at that spell by Bumrah: he recognised a key moment in the game and turned it on its head this afternoon, and we’ve got to make sure we do that as well. It was a wonderful spell that really turned the game," Root said after the match.
'There’s No Point Trying To Sugarcoat It'
England had a 99 run lead in the first innings in the 4th Test match. Top lose the match from that point must be frustrating for any captain. Even on Day 5, England came in to bat with a lot of positivity. They were 77/0 when the day started. England went on to lose six wickets for just 62 runs in the second session on Day 5. This is when Bumrah's magical spell was activated.
A frustrated Root said, “There’s been a number of periods within the game when I felt we were ahead and had a great chance. To be sat here with nothing to show from the week, it’s frustrating.
“There’s no point trying to sugarcoat it. We should have got something from this game."
There are three days left for the start of the fifth Test, scheduled to be played at Manchester. Mark Wood and Jos Buttler, the two experienced players are set to return for the final Test. The 5th Test match will be played at Old Trafford on 11th September 2021.
