India had a new look to their opening in the first ODI against New Zealand at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. It was for the first time in 44 years that two openers debuted in the same match for India.
The Shaw-Agarwal pair were the first opening duo in 44 years to debut in the same ODI after Dilip Vengsarkar and Parthasarthi Sharma were handed their debuts for India.
The new opening pair did reasonbly well to stitch a fifty run partnership in their maiden ODI assignment to give India a solid start at Hamilton.
Both Shaw and Agarwal started off cautiously and then stepped up the scoring rate by scoring a spree of boundaries.
Shaw departed first after he was scalped by Colin Grandhomme for a well made 20 of 21 deliveries. Mayank who was going strong at the other end departed soon before getting dismissed for 32.
Kiwi skipper Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bowl first against India at the Seddon Park at Hamilton. While India are missing on the services of their opener Rohit Sharma, Kiwis are without their standout skipper Kane Williamson. India are looking to continue the winning juggernaut in the ODI series after trouncing the Blacks Caps in the T2OIs.
