IND vs BAN Test: Ravichandran Ashwin Equals MS Dhoni's Historic Milestone In Test Cricket

At stumps on Day 1 of IND vs BAN Chennai Test, India reached 339 runs for loss of 6 wickets in their first innings. Ashwin remains unbeaten on 102, and Jadeja has made 86. 

Indian cricket team's star spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, delivered a crucial century to put India in a commanding position at stumps on Day 1 of IND vs BAN 1st Test in Chennai. By the second session, Rohit Sharma & Co. were struggling at 144/6. Ashwin, along with Ravindra Jadeja, stepped up to rescue the innings.

At stumps on Day 1 of IND vs BAN Chennai Test, India reached 339 runs for loss of 6 wickets in their first innings. Ashwin remains unbeaten on 102, and Jadeja has made 86.

Ashwin and Jadeja forged a record unbeaten 195-run partnership for the 7th wicket. During this stand, Ashwin notched his sixth Test century, his second at Chennai. The achievement also saw him equal the record of former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who also scored six Test centuries in his Test career.

This century is Ashwin's second at his home ground, MA Chidambaram (Chepauk) Stadium in Chennai. Moreover, he is now the fifth oldest player in the history of Indian Test cricket to score a century.

Ashwin equals MS Dhoni's record in Tests

Ravichandran Ashwin has equaled MS Dhoni's record for scoring four centuries while batting at number 7 or lower for India. 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev holds the top spot with seven such centuries. This century is also Ashwin's fastest in Test cricket, achieved in just 108 balls during IND vs BAN 1st Test in Chennai against Bangladesh.

"Always a special feeling to play in front of the home crowd. This is a ground I completely love to play cricket in. It's given me a lot of wonderful memories," Ashwin said after Day 1's play.
