Early collapse and Jamieson's impact
Pakistan's innings started disastrously, with openers Mohammad Haris and debutant Hasan Nawaz dismissed without scoring.
The collapse deepened as Irfan Khan and Shadab Khan also fell cheaply, reducing Pakistan to 11/4 within 4.4 overs. Kyle Jamieson delivered a devastating spell, taking three wickets for just eight runs in four overs, including a maiden.
Although Salman and Khushdil stitched a 46-run partnership for the fifth wicket, Pakistan's innings never recovered from the early setbacks. The second T20I of the five-match T20I series between the two teams will take place on Tuesday (March 18).

Pakistan captain Salman Agha on Pakistan's defeat: "It was difficult, we weren't up to the mark, but we need to regather (ahead of Dunedin). They bowled really well, in great areas, there was a bit of seam movement as well. We will sit down, have a chat and think about the next game. We had three debutants, the more games they play, they'll learn more. The new ball does a bit in New Zealand, we've good bowlers and we'll look to do well in the next match."
