NZ vs PAK: Pakistan's Struggles Continue With Embarrassing Record

Pakistan's 91-run total surpassed their previous lowest T20I scores in New Zealand.

After a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign on home soil, Pakistan aimed for a fresh start on their New Zealand tour (five-match T20I series). However, their struggles continued as they suffered a humiliating collapse in NZ vs PAK 1st T20I match on Saturday (March 15).

Batting first after losing the toss in Christchurch, Pakistan was bowled out for just 91 runs, marking their lowest-ever T20I total in New Zealand.

Pakistan registers unwanted record

Pakistan's 91-run total surpassed their previous lowest T20I scores in New Zealand - 101 in Wellington (2016) and 105 in Wellington (2018). Khushdil Shah was the top scorer with 32 runs, while captain Salman Ali Agha added 18. New Zealand's Jacob Duffy led the charge with four wickets.

Pakistan's Lowest T20I Totals vs New Zealand

91 – Hagley Oval, Christchurch (2025)
101 – Westpac Stadium, Wellington (2016)
105 – Westpac Stadium, Wellington (2018)
127 – Dubai International Cricket Stadium (2014)

Early collapse and Jamieson's impact

Pakistan's innings started disastrously, with openers Mohammad Haris and debutant Hasan Nawaz dismissed without scoring.

The collapse deepened as Irfan Khan and Shadab Khan also fell cheaply, reducing Pakistan to 11/4 within 4.4 overs. Kyle Jamieson delivered a devastating spell, taking three wickets for just eight runs in four overs, including a maiden.

Although Salman and Khushdil stitched a 46-run partnership for the fifth wicket, Pakistan's innings never recovered from the early setbacks. The second T20I of the five-match T20I series between the two teams will take place on Tuesday (March 18).

Pakistan captain Salman Agha on Pakistan's defeat: "It was difficult, we weren't up to the mark, but we need to regather (ahead of Dunedin). They bowled really well, in great areas, there was a bit of seam movement as well. We will sit down, have a chat and think about the next game. We had three debutants, the more games they play, they'll learn more. The new ball does a bit in New Zealand, we've good bowlers and we'll look to do well in the next match."
