'It Was Really Disappointing': Usman Khawaja Talks About Heated Argument With MCC Member At Lord's
It transpired when the team members took a walk back to the dressing room after the first session for lunch and then an MCC member made a comment on Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal.
Australia again put up a commanding show as they clinched a terrific victory over England, taking a 2-0 lead in the series. Post winning the first Test, the Kangaroos continued their dominance and won the second Lord’s game also. However, Ben Stokes showed tremendous resilience but his century went in vain as he could not sail his team’s boat on Sunday.
In the middle of a chaotic Day 5 at Lord’s, one incident that hogged attention took place off the field when Australian opener Usman Khawaja was spotted having a heated argument with one of the MCC members. It transpired when the team members took a walk back to the dressing room after the first session for lunch and then an MCC member made a comment on Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal, which led to a heated argument.
The MCC member also tried to stop David Warner but a security officer pulled the two players off in order to end the war of words. Post all the drama, the MCC issued a statement where they clarified the whole situation while Khawaja also spoke about the matter and spoke to Channel Nine after the conclusion of the game.
“It was really disappointing. Lord's is one of my favorite places to come. There's always respect shown at Lord's, particularly in the Members Pavilion in the Long Room, but there wasn't today. It was very disappointing. If anyone asked me where the best place is to play I always say Lord's,” Khawaja said.
“The crowd is great, particularly the members are great, and some of the stuff that was coming out of the members' mouths is really disappointing and I wasn't just going stand by and cop it. So I just talked to a few of them. A few of them throwing out some pretty big allegations and I just called them up on it and they kept going, and I was like, well, this is your membership here. So I'm just pointing them out. But it's pretty disrespectful, to be honest. I just expect a lot better from the members,” he added.
