India Vs England 1st ODI: When & Where To Watch, Squad And Preview

India takes on England in the 1st ODI. Team India will be banking on the confidence gained from the recently conclcuded T20I series victory over England.

New Delhi: India takes on England in the 1st ODI of the three-match series in England. The first ODI will be played at the Kennington Oval, London on Tuesday, July 12.

India are coming off an emphatic T20I series victory over England and will be looking to carry the momentum into the ODI series as well. The Indian camp will be happy with left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan making a comeback into the squad. However, the biggest question will be the availability of their talisman Virat Kohli, who has reportedly, suffered a groin injury.

On the other hand, England, which have remodelled their playing style in Tests successfully, will be looking to better their style in ODI under head coach McCullum, who, during his time, was one of the most feared batsman of the limited over game.

The series also embarks a new era for England as they commence their limited-overs cricket in the Post-Morgan era. Eoin Morgan announced his retirement from international cricket last month.

"50-over cricket is an extension of T20 cricket. You might take slightly fewer risks than you do in T20s, but we have to take risks. It is not as if we won't take risks. We need to get used to playing freely. When you try to play freely, it comes with its failures both in individual performance and in team results, but you get to learn a lot from that. We are looking at the bigger picture, not the small picture. As it is, in India we are used to two-and-a-half-hour pictures. All these matches are crucial for us because somewhere we need to change something, and we can see things have started to change slightly," said Indian team captain, Rohit Sharma.

There are some facts to keep in mind as two-time World Cup winners India take on current World Champions England:

  • Since the 2019 World Cup, England have played only 21 ODIs. Among Full Members, only New Zealand (11), Pakistan (17) and Zimbabwe (18) have played fewer ODIs.
  • Stokes, player of the Match in the World Cup final, has only played in six ODIs since. Root, England's leading run-getter in the tournament, has played only nine ODIs in that period.
  • Since the COVID-19 break in mid-2020, India have scored only one ODI hundred in all ODIs (home plus away) while they have conceded seven.
