Team India In Trouble? Jasprit Bumrah May Skip Some Tests In England

Jasprit Bumrah was injured during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and underwent back surgery, which kept him out of action for nearly four months.

Team India’s five-match Test series against England kicks off on June 20, and it marks a significant moment for Indian cricket as Shubman Gill takes over as Test captain for the first time.

However, this high-stakes tour won’t be easy for Gill. Key veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin are missing, and there’s growing uncertainty around whether Jasprit Bumrah will feature in all five matches.

Concerns Over Bumrah’s Workload

Bumrah was injured during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and underwent back surgery, which kept him out of action for nearly four months. Since his return, managing his workload—especially in Test cricket—has become a major priority for the Indian team.

Gill Addresses Bumrah’s Availability

Captain Shubman Gill recently addressed the speculation, saying that Bumrah’s participation in all five Tests would depend on how the series unfolds and how many matches are impacted by rain.

If India secures the series early, Bumrah could be rested. However, if the team faces pressure, his inclusion will depend on match situations and fitness assessments.

Brad Hogg suggests India should rest Bumrah for 1st Test

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has offered a bold recommendation on how India should manage Jasprit Bumrah during the upcoming Test series against England. Speaking to RevSportz, Hogg suggested that India should rest Bumrah for the first Test, which begins on June 20, and bring him in for the second and third Tests instead.

"You've got to be very strategic with those three Test matches," Hogg told RevSportz. "Where are you going to get the most benefit out of him? Because he can turn the game, he can turn the series on its head. So you want to make sure that you play him at Lord's, definitely, and probably Warwickshire."

Team India’s Squad for England Series

Shubman Gill (Captain), Rishabh Pant (Vice-captain & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
