Five Indian Bowlers Who Created Magic At Lord's - One Sadly Departed

Over the years, several Indian bowlers have produced memorable spells at this iconic venue.

The third Test between India and England is set to begin today at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

After leveling the series with a strong win at Edgbaston, India will look to carry the momentum forward. Lord’s, often referred to as the "home of cricket," has always offered a unique challenge — rewarding both bowlers and batters depending on conditions.

Over the years, several Indian bowlers have produced memorable spells at this iconic venue. Among them are five standout performers, one of whom is no longer with us but remains etched in cricket history.

Five Indian Bowlers Who Left Their Mark at Lord’s

5 – Anil Kumble

Legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble ranks fifth on this list. Despite Lord’s traditionally favoring seamers, Kumble made his mark with his deceptive flippers and bounce, taking 12 wickets at the venue. He retired with 619 Test wickets, making him India’s highest wicket-taker in Tests.

4 – Zaheer Khan

Known for his deadly reverse swing, Zaheer Khan was a menace for English batters. His ability to exploit even the slightest wear on the ball helped him claim 11 wickets at Lord’s. Zaheer played a pivotal role in many of India’s overseas successes.

3 – Ishant Sharma

With over 300 Test wickets, Ishant Sharma is one of India’s most experienced pacers. At Lord’s, he has taken 17 wickets, including an iconic 7-wicket haul in 2014 that led India to a historic win. Though currently out of the squad, his performance remains unforgettable.

2 – Kapil Dev

India’s first World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, was equally lethal with the red ball. The legendary all-rounder thrived in English conditions and claimed 17 wickets at Lord’s with his sharp pace and swing, often unsettling top-order batters.

1 – Bishan Singh Bedi

At the top is the late Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away in 2023. Known for his elegant yet deadly left-arm spin, Bedi showcased his skill even on pace-friendly Lord’s tracks, securing 17 wickets. His artistry with the ball and sportsmanship left a lasting legacy.

These bowlers may have played in different eras, but their feats at Lord’s remain part of Indian cricket’s proud history. From spin to swing, they’ve proven that Indian bowlers can conquer even the grandest stages.
