History Favors England At Headingley - Details Inside

England have pulled off four successful fourth-innings chases at this venue—each of them etched in Test history.

The first Test between India and England at Headingley, Leeds, is set for a gripping finish. England requires 351 runs to win on the final day, while India needs 10 wickets to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

With the match hanging in the balance, Day 5 promises high drama. India will bank on its bowlers to deliver under pressure, while England will rely on its batting depth and Headingley’s history.

Headingley: Ground of English Fightbacks

England’s record while chasing at Headingley has been exceptional. The hosts have pulled off four successful fourth-innings chases at this venue—each of them etched in Test history.

The most memorable came in 2019, when England chased 359 against Australia, finishing at 362/9 in a nail-biter led by Ben Stokes. In 2001, they successfully chased 315, again against Australia. In recent years, England chased down 296 against New Zealand in 2022, and 255 against Australia in 2023, further reinforcing their ability to win under pressure at this venue.

Bumrah Stands Tall Amidst Bowling Woes

For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball in the first innings, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul while maintaining excellent control. However, the rest of the pace attack failed to offer consistent support.

Prasidh Krishna proved expensive, conceding 128 runs in 20 overs at an economy rate of 6.40, despite picking up three wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur also struggled for rhythm and effectiveness, allowing England to stay in the game.

As the final day unfolds, India will hope for early breakthroughs, while England will look to recreate one of their many Headingley miracles.

KL Rahul Confident India Can Seal Win

KL Rahul feels that Team India will give themselves the "best chance" to bowl out England on Day 5 of 1st test and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

"Blockbuster finish waiting. There's definitely going to be a result. That's what England have said openly and it gives us the opportunity to pick up 10 wickets," said Rahul.
