Ben Duckett Does What No One Has In A Decade At Headingley

With Duckett anchoring the innings, England is off to a solid start, and the match remains finely poised heading into the final sessions.

England’s opener Ben Duckett etched his name in the record books with a standout performance in the ongoing Headingley Test against India.

Duckett became the first English opening batsman in the last 10 years to score a half-century in both innings at Headingley — a feat last achieved by Alastair Cook in 2015.

Duckett Creates Rare Headingley Record

Ben Duckett looked in sublime touch throughout the match. After hammering a fluent 62 runs in the first innings, he followed it up with another composed knock in the second, reaching 60 not out at the time of writing.

With this performance, he also became just the second English opener in the last 30 years to score fifties in both innings of a Test at this venue, joining former skipper Cook in an elite club.

England Chasing 371, India Collapse Late

India has set a challenging target of 371 runs for England to win the Test. Duckett and Crawley have stitched a solid 150-plus stand in the chase as England looks all but set to make it 1-0 in Leeds.

Earlier, India’s second innings ended at 364, despite a strong platform laid by KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Rahul contributed a gritty 137, while Pant scored 118 off 140 balls, marking his second century of the match — an exceptional effort from the wicketkeeper-batter.

However, India’s innings lost momentum late. From a strong position at 333/4, the team collapsed to 364 all out, losing six wickets for just 31 runs in a dramatic end to their innings. This collapse left India vulnerable, with England’s openers — especially Duckett — looking determined in their pursuit of a historic run chase.

With Duckett anchoring the innings, England is off to a solid start, and the match remains finely poised heading into the final sessions.
