IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant Eyes Virender Sehwag's Big Test Record

It remains to be seen whether Rishabh Pant will recover in time to resume his wicketkeeping duties or whether Dhruv Jurel will once again take his place behind the stumps.

The fourth match of the 5-match Test series between India and England will be played in Manchester from July 23. Forgetting the defeat in the previous match, Team India would like to level the series 2-2 by achieving a historic win in Manchester.

In this match, a big record of former legend Virender Sehwag is expected to come under threat from Team India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

Will Pant break Virender Sehwag's record?

Team India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been in fine form throughout this series. However, Pant was dismissed cheaply in the second innings of the Lord's Test, which turned out to be a crucial turning point in the match.

England captain Ben Stokes himself acknowledged after the match just how important Pant's wicket was for his team.

At the same time, Rishabh played a brilliant knock of 74 runs in the first innings. During this innings, he hit 2 sixes as well. With this effort, Pant climbed to joint second place alongside Rohit Sharma for the most sixes hit in Test cricket by an Indian player.

Rishabh Pant has now hit 88 sixes in Test cricket. He is now in touching distance of breaking Virender Sehwag’s record.

Sehwag holds the record for hitting the most sixes in Test cricket among Indian players, with 91 sixes. Now, to surpass Sehwag’s milestone, Pant will need to hit 4 sixes in the Manchester Test.

Virender Sehwag achieved this record over 180 innings across 104 matches. In comparison, Pant has smashed 88 sixes in just 81 innings — a clear indicator of his explosive style of play.

Will Pant be able to keep wickets?

Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury during the Lord's Test, which forced him to leave the field.

In his absence, Dhruv Jurel was seen donning the gloves and keeping wickets in the second innings. However, Pant did return to bat.

Now, ahead of the Manchester Test, it remains to be seen whether Rishabh Pant will recover in time to resume his wicketkeeping duties or whether Dhruv Jurel will once again take his place behind the stumps.
