IND vs ENG: ICC Takes Action Against Mohammed Siraj - Details Inside

The atmosphere between both teams has been fiery throughout the Lord’s Test.

Tensions are running high in the ongoing Lord's Test between India and England, with players from both sides engaging in intense sledging and mind games to tilt the momentum in their team’s favor.

Amid this heated contest, Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has found himself in trouble with the International Cricket Council (ICC), which has imposed a fine on him. As a result, 15% of his match fee will be deducted.

Why Was Mohammad Siraj Fined?

The atmosphere between both teams has been fiery throughout the Lord’s Test. While England’s players have been involved in verbal exchanges and mental tactics, Siraj’s reaction after dismissing Ben Duckett on Day 4 caught the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Siraj gave Duckett a fiery send-off and got too close to him, even brushing shoulders during the aggressive celebration.

The umpires stepped in immediately to diffuse the tension, but the incident did not go unnoticed. Former England captain Alastair Cook criticized Siraj’s behavior, stating that physical contact during celebrations crosses a line. He remarked that while emotion is natural in cricket, such actions go against the spirit of the game.

ICC’s Action on Siraj

The ICC has officially sanctioned Mohammad Siraj for breaching its Code of Conduct during the India vs England Test at Lord’s. He was found guilty of “using inappropriate language and making physical contact after dismissing the batter.” The governing body fined Siraj 15% of his match fee. Since Siraj accepted the penalty, there will be no formal hearing.

How Much Will Siraj Lose?

As per BCCI norms, Indian players receive ₹15 lakh as match fees for a Test match, in addition to their central contracts. With a 15% fine imposed by the ICC, approximately ₹2.25 lakh will be deducted from Siraj’s earnings for this match.

While the monetary penalty might not affect Siraj financially in a major way, the incident serves as a clear warning — aggressive passion on the field must always stay within the boundaries of fair play.
