Chahar's 9-run ball leaves Dhoni unimpressed
Chahar would not like to remember his debut in a long long time, especially the start of it. In only in his second over, the Rajasthan pacer was taken for 17 runs by the Afghan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad, which included a no ball and two wides.

Deepak Chahar had the variation, the confidence, the belief. The only thing he lacked was the execution, which outdid his variation, confidence and belief to turn his ODI debut into a nightmare, giving MS Dhoni an early headache on his return to captaincy.

The no ball was a head-high full toss which earned him a warning and a free hit to Afghanistan. The back of the hand slower one did not go anywhere to where it was intended to. Chahar was guilty of trying too many things too early and it went from bad worse as the over progressed. The next two deliveries, in which he again tried two variants of the slower bouncer were miles away from the target and declared as wides.
When he finally decided to fall back to normal seam-ups, he was heaved over mid-wicket for a six followed by another brutal swat through the same region for a boundary.

The reaction of Dhoni behind the stumps, who was one of the main reasons behind Chahar’s selection couple of months ago in England, was worth a sight. The stand-in Indian captain did not give out much like his successor Kohli or Rohit would do but the blank stare was enough to convey that he wasn’t the happiest with Chahar’s performance with the new ball.
He immediately took his CSK teammate off the attack and replaced him Sidharth Kaul. Chahar only bowled four overs in the match, giving away 37 runs for 1 wicket.
