Ashes 2019: Coach Langer Expecting Warner To Fire At Lords
While Smith hit innings of 144 and 142 during Australia's win over England in the first Test, Warner failed to perform as he scored a total of 10 runs in the Edgbaston Test
The first Test match of the Ashes 2019 began on Thursday at Edgbaston where Australia completed a stunning fightback at Edgbaston to take a 1-0 Ashes lead and collect 24 points in the World Test Championship. It was also the first time that the Aussie trio of Steven Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft took the field together, since the infamous ‘Sandpapergate’ controversy in South Africa in 2018.
While Smith hit innings of 144 and 142 during Australia's win over England in the first Test, Warner failed to perform as he scored a total of 10 runs in the Edgbaston Test.
Australia head coach Justin Langer believes opener David Warner will score runs in the second Test against England, beginning Wednesday at Lord's.
On the other hand, Steve Smith scored twin centuries which proved to be the difference between the arch-rivals.
"I like it when great players miss out," cricket.com.au quoted Langer as saying when asked about Warner's output at Edgbaston.
"It means statistically they'll probably get some pretty soon, so hopefully it's this Test.
"They're great players for a reason and he's got that look in his eye," Langer added.
Both Warner and Smith were given a few days off after the first Test, travelling in a car together from Birmingham to London while they did not feature in the tour game in Worcester.
With a 1-0 lead secured, the Ashes series now heads to Lord's with the second Test starting August 14.
